‘Only children' are disadvantaged compared to kids with brothers and sisters. Discuss.
This essay look at and discuss just how being and ‘only child' can be an benefit or a downside to a children's development. It will require in to bank account a number of different research that have seemed closely with the development of the two ‘only children' and of individuals with siblings. This can be essay is going to focus on the differences between ‘only children' and children with siblings when viewing emotional and behavioural attributes, the physical development in sport plus the effect that being an only child has on an individual in later existence. Falbo (1992) looked into this, so that they can find out whether ‘only children' where as psychologically stable while those children that acquired siblings. Falbo conducted many studies and once collating the results identified that only children scored more than others in achievement, motivation and self-esteem. She also concluded that only kids did not stay ahead of the masses when looking at areas such as generosity, autonomy, panic and popularity.
